Why bother with Brussels? Starting Out
Bringing together 27 countries with a combined population of just under 500 million citizens, the European Union (EU) is a massive decision making body with a broad scope. The size and reach of the EU means that there are many opportunities to influence decisions made at the European level, but this can also mean that it can feel distant and seem difficult to know where to begin.
This section introduces key institutions and bodies and the decision making process in the EU. This is not a complete list but is a starting point with signposts to further information throughout.
