About the course

If you are new to trusteeship or you wish to provide your trustees with refresher training, then NCVO’s trustee training course is ideal for you. This course draws on NCVO’s experience gained through our governance work with a range of charities over many years.

By the end of the day, attendees will be equipped to make an effective contribution to the governance of your organisation.

The interactive and challenging day will give you:
• understanding  on who are the trustees and what do they do
• clarity on the responsibilities and personal liabilities of charity trustees
• top tips on what makes a good trustee
• an in-depth look at key governance relationships within a charity
• knowledge of the key principles of good governance
• Case studies to learn from.

Who should attend?

The course is designed for people who are new to governance and trusteeship. It could form part of an induction for a new trustee or a refresher session for existing trustees and senior staff.

The trainer

This course will be led by Emma Herbert. Emma joined NCVO in 2008 and is a Senior Consultant within the Consultancy and Innovation team. Emma’s work focuses on the areas of governance and leadership and she has a wealth of experience having worked with a range of voluntary and community sector organisations, from large household name charities through to small, local community groups.

Prior to NCVO Emma worked as Business Development Manager at Daycare Trust and has also been a consultant to the Equal Opportunities Commission, specialising in issues of sex discrimination in the workplace.

Emma is a qualified employment solicitor (currently non-practising). As a solicitor, she worked with employers of all sizes around issues of strategic planning, change management, discrimination, workplace disputes and employment tribunal disputes.
