Finish time: 20th May 2013, 18:45

Venue: NCVO Conference Suite,  8 All Saints Street, London, N1 9RL

About the day

This half day session is aimed at trustees who want to be strategic about their organisation’s financial sustainability. Using a mix of presentation and group exercises, NCVO advisors will focus on the role of trustees in overseeing income generation from diverse sources, including gifts, grants, contracts and trading.

Participants will learn about the operational and cultural issues they need to think about when accessing new income, as well as key considerations in overseeing a change in the way the organisation is funded. The session will also look at mitigation of financial risk associated with a new funding strategy, and showing leadership in taking a strategic approach to funding.

The session will cover the following topics:

  • Taking a strategic approach: what is sustainable funding?
  • Legal duties and responsibilities
  • Financial oversight
  • Good governance
  • Identifying opportunities to diversify your income
  • Identifying risk and costs of fundraising
  • Planning for change
  • Action planning

Who should attend

  • Trustees who would like to take a more strategic approach to funding
  • New trustees who would like to pick up skills for their new role
  • Chief Executives or Directors who work closely with trustees on their income strategy

This course is not appropriate for non-trustees or staff looking for general support with fundraising and income generation. NCVO’s Sustainable Funding project offers a wealth of training and resources on sustainable funding, relevant to all roles and levels of responsibility.
