A series of masterclasses on income diversification for voluntary and community sector support organisations / infrastructure organisations.

Venue: BVSC, Birmingham

NAVCA and NCVO are working in partnership to bring support organisations or infrastructure organisations this series of masterclass for voluntary sector support organisations.

In a difficult funding environment, this series will give participants the skills, knowledge and inspiration they need to refresh their funding model and access new sources of income. Using a series of case studies, expert speakers and practical exercises, this series provides a valuable toolkit for building sustainable, local support for the voluntary and community sector.

Event 2: Finding the form that fits

In our second masterclass, participants will hear from two organisations that have successfully managed a substantial change in the way they generate income.

We’ll use practical exercises to explore both the technical and legal aspects of moving to a new income model, for example, creating a new legal structure or working in consortia, as well as the organisational or cultural changes that help to sustain a new approach.

Speakers

  • Kim Harper, Chief Executive, Community Action Derby and Trustee, NAVCA
  • Mark Davis, Chief Executive Officer for Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations
  • Faciliated by John Dawson, Local Commissioning and Procurement Adviser and Lindsey Benton, Senior Consultant, NAVCA

Kim Harper will share her experiences of setting up Community Enterprise Derby, a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2009. She will tell us about the successes and the challenges and how she went about deciding on which legal structure to create.

Mark Davis will tell us about Lifework, the commercial share company, he inherited when he came into post at SCVO and the interesting path he has taken with this enterprise – from near closure to success.
