The pensions landscape in the UK is changing dramatically. From 2012, the Government is implementing changes to pensions legislation to help make it easier for more people to save for retirement.
Between 2012 and 2017 all employers will have to automatically enrol all eligible employees into a qualifying pension scheme and make contributions to their plan. Employers will have additional regulatory requirements to be aware of and non-compliance could result in fines. The Government has recently announced a revised timetable for auto enrolment (Feb 2012) and the dates that are now applicable are:
Number of PAYE employees From To
250+ 1 October 2012 1 February 2014
50 to 249 1 April 2014 1 April 2015
Test tranche for less than 30 1 June 2015 30 June 2015
30 to 49 1 August 2015 1 October 2015
Less than 30 1 January 2016 1 April 2017
