Karl Wilding is NCVO’s Head of Policy, Research and Foresight. He is an Honorary Visiting Fellow at Cass Business School’s Centre for Charity Effectiveness, where he also contributes to the ESRC Centre for Giving and Philanthropy. His professional interests include voluntary sector funding and finance, the relative roles of the state and voluntary organisations, and the impact of new technologies on voluntary action. Karl is a trustee of St Albans Centre for Voluntary Service.

James has been Policy Manager at NCVO since May 2010 and leads the organisation’s policy work on areas including giving and philanthropy, voluntary sector funding, tax, fiscal and economic policy and public services reform. He has worked previously in a number of policy, communications and public affairs advisory roles in both the private sector and the not-for-profit sector. He holds a Masters degree in Public Policy, is involved in a range of campaigns and projects on a pro bono basis and is a School Governor in the London Borough of Southwark.

Elizabeth has been NCVO’s Policy Officer since 2008, and leads the organisation’s work on charity law and regulation. This in particular includes providing the Secretariat to NCVO’s Charity Law Review Advisory Group, and developing policy proposals about the regulatory role of the Charity Commission. Elizabeth also provides policy advice on some of the sector’s key values such as independence, transparency, and accountability.

Charlotte produces briefings and analysis on a range of policy areas, mainly focusing on localism and funding. This is either as a formal commentary or in more informal blog format. She has also been working on NCVO’s Policy Review, where we are conducting a new style of member consultation to shape our policy work.

Since 2008, Jenny has managed NCVO’s quantitative research programme. Jenny has specialist skills in labour market analysis, survey design and data analysis and has written a number of user friendly research publications including the NCVO Almanac series. Jenny has nine years research experience within a public policy department and holds an MSc with distinction in Advanced Social Research Methods and Statistics. She has also completed an in-depth learning programme on consulting run by The Tavistock Institute based on its MA in Advanced Organisational Consulting.

David Kane is a research officer, leading on the quantitative analysis of data for NCVO’s work on the size and scope of civil society, and is an author of the UK Civil Society Almanac 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, the State and the Voluntary Sector and the UK Voluntary Sector Almanac 2007. David leads NCVO’s involvement in research to classify voluntary sector organisations and in open data.

Véronique Jochum is Research Manager and leads on NCVO’s qualitative research. Her specialist areas are participation, voluntary action and charitable giving. She has conducted a range of projects on motivations, values and social capital and was the project manager for the Pathways through Participation project. Véronique is a member of the IVR advisory group (Institute for Volunteering Research).

Ellie is a research consultant and has been at NCVO since 2009. She regularly writes and presents on the themes of citizen engagement, participation and volunteering and was a lead researcher on the Pathways through Participation project. She is a trustee of the Association for Research in the Voluntary and Community Sector (ARVAC) and holds an MA in Research Methods and International Politics.
