What Do You Believe In?
A new national campaign "What Do You Believe In?" has been launched to encourage people to give to causes they care about.
Spearheaded by NCVO, the campaign will encourage people to actively support organisations striving to make a difference to their local community or wider society.
Stuart Etherington, chief executive of NCVO, said:
"Charities offer amazing support to local communities right across the country thanks to fantastic donations and backing from the public.
"Lots of small donations make a huge difference to them. If everyone gave just £1 more a week, we’d raise an extra £3.1bn to help thousands more people.
"That’s why I’m asking 'what do you believe in?' to remind people of the work that still needs to be done to achieve the ‘good society’ and of the contribution they personally can make simply by giving to causes they believe in. Everyone from regular donors, to those who have stopped and those who have never given before can help."
The campaign has widespread support from charitable organisations. It also has the backing of the Prime Minister. Pledging his support, Gordon Brown said:
"I believe charities make a huge and positive contribution to local communities, which is why I’m backing this campaign to support thousands of organisations across the UK."
"I believe without the intervention of The Family Haven many families would remain isolated until they could cope no longer. The charity makes a real difference to so many children."

I work for a charity to make handicap vans for those people who cannot afford to have a wheelchair for themselves. Lots of small donations make a huge difference to them. If everyone gave just £1 more a week, we'd raise an extra £3.1bn to help thousands more people. This is so true. NCVO has done a great contribution for those people who are unable to help for themselves and I believe that a collection of water drops makes a ocean.
