NCVO Research picks up award

NCVO's research team has picked up the prestigious Social Policy Association's award for its 'Outstanding Contribution from a Non-Academic to Social Policy'.
The award is open to individuals and organisations who the judges consider to have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of social policy.
The SPA, which promotes social policy research within policy making, states that the award;
"Will be granted to an individual or organization who in the opinion of the judges has made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of social policy, either through campaigning, lobbying, service provision, fundraising, journalism, funding of research, dissemination of research (particularly to practitioners and other non-academic audiences) or through other non-academic means."
Nick Timmins of the FT, who made the award at a special gala dinner held at the University of Lincoln during the SPA annual conference, highlighted NCVO's research and horizon scanning work and the efforts the team has made to work with the academic community.
Karl Wilding, Head of Research at NCVO said:
"NCVO has always strongly supported research that informs policy and practice, so winning this award is is a real honour, especially as revious winners include Child Poverty Action Group.
"I would like to thank all those who have worked with NCVO Research over the years to build the evidence base for civil society."
NCVO Research supports voluntary and community organisations by developing a strong evidence base on sector issues, such as citizen engagement, philanthropy and the economic downturn.
Key research publications include the Civil Society Almanac, an annual publication drawing together sector trends and statistics, and UK Giving, which provides an overview of the state of individual charitable giving.
