NCVO supports call for Robin Hood Tax

11th February 2010
Robin Hood Tax campaign

NCVO is one of more than 60 organisations that have pledged their support for a Robin Hood Tax on banking transactions.

The campaign, led by Oxfam and TUC, calls for a 0.05% tax on financial transactions between banks to help repair damage caused by the global economic crisis.

It would raise billions of pounds a year, given the size of transactions, to protect public services in the UK, fight poverty abroad and help foot the bill for climate change.

NCVO’s chief executive, Stuart Etherington, said:

"We believe in the good society, which promotes fairness and social justice. This tax will help achieve our aim."

The tax would not be levied on banks' transactions with their high street customers, but only apply to transactions between financial institutions.
