It is published and maintained by a steering group made up of representatives of ACEVO, ICSA, NCVO, SCC and WCVA, with support from the Charity Commission. It aims to help boards adopt and apply good practice in governing their organisations.

Following a survey and consultation in 2008-9, a second edition of the Code in 2010 and a version for smaller organisations were published. The steering group want to find out what has changed, where we can improve the code, website and communications.
