New briefing on how to use the Best Value guidance

20th February 2012

The Department for Communities and Local Government published Best Value Statutory Guidance in September 2011 for all local authorities in how they should work with voluntary and community groups.

Together with NAVCA, Locality, and Volunteering England we have produced a briefing on the Best Value Guidance (PDF 396KB), including examples and suggestions on how organisations can use it. The briefing also includes suggestions for action if you believe the guidance has been breached.

The Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, first said he was considering using the law to prevent local authorities passing on "disproportionate" cuts to charities at our 2011 Annual Conference last March.
