The NCVO/APPG Parliamentary Reception pays tribute to the work of the sector
Around 200 MPs, sector leaders and civil servants attended the NCVO / All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Christmas Parliamentary Reception at the House of Commons yesterday.
This annual event facilitates engagement between the voluntary sector and parliamentarians and raises the profile of the APPG on Civil Society and Volunteering.
Guests heard from a range of speakers including the Hon Bernard Jenkin MP, Chair of the Public Administration Select Committee (PASC). Mr Jenkin expanded on some of the themes in the Committee’s ‘The Big Society’ report, which launched yesterday.
The event also saw the launch of the Leadership 20:20 Commission’s recommendations for supporting civil society leaders of the future. The recommendations were introduced by the Commission’s President, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE.
Other speakers included NCVO Chair Martyn Lewis CBE, the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, Chair of the APPG on Civil Society and Volunteering, and Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd MP.
