Social Media Policy

Hi,

I work for the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services. We had a growing social media presence on Facebook and Twitter as well as content on youtube and audioboo (facebook.com/ncvys and twitter.com/ncvys)

As a small organisation, a high proportion of our staff are now engaging with social media both personally and professionally. We'd like to get a social media policy to set some guidelines about how staff can use it and how to encourage greater uptake.

I'd really welcome any thoughts from members of the NCVO community on work that other people have done in this area or suggestions on how to get started/resources to look at.

Thanks for your help,

Kind regards,

Ross Bailey.

Hello Ross, we went through a similar process of drawing up a social media policy in 2009. Stephanie Hill, our web officer, led on this work so she may be a good person to speak with? Steph ran a kind of focus group to consult with interested staff using a mixture of good "social media" practice and staff consensus to come up with a code of conduct, that we agreed with. It was a fairly creative process - which I think worked well.
