The legacy of the debt campaign...
This is a great article about the legacy of the Jubilee 2000 Campaign. It's a good reminder that while we rightly focus on the policy change impact that it had, we shouldn't overlook the fact that it was the first campaign for many of those who are now leaders in our sector, that it got many development NGOs into campaigning and advocacy for the first time and it showed that we shouldn't be afraid of asking our supporters to campaign on complex issues.
What other campaigns in recent history have had the same impact? Make Poverty History is another example, but as Jonathan Glennie argues that probably wouldn't have happened without Jubilee 2000. Are their equivalent campaigns in other sectors that can claim the same legacy?
