Looking for an online space to share film, photos and more!

Can anyone help with this request?
I am just getting going with a project that involves collecting lots of different perspectives from lots of different people and want to find an online resource to share the responses so that all participants can view and comment on them. This would be film, photographs, documents and probably voice recording too.
The main challenge is that there are some young and vulnerable people involved and we do not want to share their photos publically so really want a space that is password protected and not completely public as well as easy to use.
Does anyone know of an online community, some kind of online file storing space or something else entirely that might work? All ideas much appreciated!

One option could be Ning (http://www.ning.com/). Unfortunately it's no longer a free service. You might also want to check out Google Groups and Yahoo Groups which are free. All these solutions allow you to control who has access to the group.

You could also look at Elgg http://elgg.org. It's an open source social networking tool but the community itself can be closed. Soon you'll also be able to get a hosted version: http://elgg.com/
It is used by a number of universities for their academic community. I think Brighton Uni uses it: http://community.brighton.ac.uk/
