Some things I've spotted this week
I've finally got round to putting a bit of a blog together sharing round a few things I've seen this week which might be of interest.
Trying to find the right tool for your campaign?
Thanks to a tweet by @Infoactivism I spotted that Movements.org have a toolbox page on their website that contains an extremely comprehensive list and descriptions of loads of useful applications and web tools - from audio visual, to mapping, to community building. Well worth a look to see if there's something already out there to help your campaign do something a bit different.
Looking for some September reading?
The Southwark Organising blog has painstakingly put together a massive reading list of books, guides and articles that cover campaigning and community activism helped compiled through crowdsourcing via the wonderful e-campaigning forum. If you are looking for some inspiration have a look on at the reading list.
Can information change behaviour?
Nick Temple looks at where technology meets behaviour change and if nudge type theories actually work on his blog.
Petitions what are they good for?
Amassing lots of lovely data or engaging people as a first step into an issue or a shallow form of campaigning? Brian Lamb argues for the later on Third Sector.
And along the same lines @mrtombaker on his blog the thoughtful campaigner has posted up an insightful look at Stephen Phillips MP attack on 38 degrees and other campaigner tactics on epetitions - Astroturfing, 38 degress and MPs views well worth a read for the other side of the argument.
Campaigning blogs on the NCVO website
We've had a load of campaigning related blogs on the NCVO website in the past few weeks which you might have missed if you were lucky enough to have a summer holiday.
Sarah Shimmin Gilbert poses the question can charities still change the world and sets out what’s to come from her over the next few months on her blog.
Guest blogger by Tom Baker looks at advocacy in 2020 – what will advocacy or campaigning look like in a decades time? Tom shares his thoughts on a number of recent reports that explore future trends and highlights some common themes that we should all be thinking about now.
Charlotte from our policy team provides a short guide to localism and outlines NCVO’s work in this area.
What do trustees really think of campaigning? This blog shares findings and analysis from our consultation with over 300 trustees the results were rather surprising and encouraging.
If you have spotted anything you'd like to share here then please do add it in.
