Learning from the US
We highlighted a series of blogs by Tom Baker in this week's campaigning and influencing newsletter so good in fact I wanted to share them here.
Tom is a campaigner at Tearfund and writes in a personal capacity on his blog the thoughtful campaigner. He's brought together in these three blogs a range of thinking and reflections on what's going on in the US and what we could learn from a recent trip there. Well worth a read.
- Thinking around leadership models within campaign movements
- Some general observations and implications for campaigners from visiting to DC and NYC
- US approaches to planning and evaluating campaigns - explaining the theory of change approach to campaign planning and evaluation driven by trusts and funders in the US.
The resource that that Tom refers to in his blog was written by Brian Lamb for us earlier this year and is available to download for free on our website: Campaigning for change: Learning from the United States
The thinking behind it was to bring together a range of thinking emerging from the US - through a number of charitable and philanthropic foundations seeking to develop an overarching approach to setting the strategy, planning and evaluation of campaigning.
It explores how change happens and provides campaigners practical ways to evaluate, to understand and ultimately to more effectively achieve change.
If you have used the theory of change approach in your campaigns or read anything interesting on the subject be great to hear from you....
