NCVO Barclays Leadership Programme 2012

Leadership is a craft – you need to learn it

Bookings are now closed

Barclays is supporting NCVO in a programme to inspire leadership in voluntary and community sector organisations. This means that in this difficult time, leaders in our sector get a fantastic, subsidised programme which can really impact upon the success of their organisation.

Great leaders inspire great performance in individuals, organisations and whole sectors. They anticipate the future and create direction, bring out the best in people, inspire trust and deliver results. But leadership is a craft that you need to learn, practice and refine. This is the case whether you lead a small team or large organisation.

"If we package our passion, nurture our leaders, and invest in our skills, we will lead the social and political change that is too important to leave to chance."
Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive, NCVO

About the NCVO Barclays Leadership Programme

Investing in your leadership and the leadership qualities of your staff is one of the most important investments you can make as it will have a huge impact on the success of your organisation and your success as an individual. Getting the leadership style, culture and behaviour in your organisation right will drive engagement and result in increased performance both internally and externally.

At NCVO, through the Barclays Leadership Programme, we can help you to improve leadership. Hear what Oonagh Smyth, NCVO's senior advisor (governance and collaboration) has to say about taking time out to appreciate your leadership.

Using a combination of facilitated workshops, action learning, assessment tools and self-directed learning the course will help you to:

  • Recognise your leadership style to help you understand how you function as a leader.
  • Create and communicate a clear and compelling vision of the future.
  • Inspire and engage people to follow you, establishing trust and respect.
  • Create a high performance culture which delivers objectives.
  • Manage the performance, productivity, morale and motivation of your team.
  • Adapt your leadership style to suit the situation.
  • Communicate effectively.

"Relaxed, challenging and enabled quality reflection."

"I have learnt how to be a more authentic leader and I am a lot happier in my "own" skin. I don't have to try to be something that I am not. I feel more resilient."
Participant, Barclays Leadership Programme 2011/12

Learning from others' experiences. Having the various "aspects" of leadership broken down into "bite" size pieces.
Participant, Barclays Leadership Programme 2011/12

"I will use development goals to continue my leadership "journey". I'm now far more aware of what leadership is and needs to be as well as having some practical ideas/suggestions to implement."
