Speaking at NCVO's Political Conference this morning, David Blunkett MP has laid out a series of recommendations following a year long consultation by a working group of Labour MPs, chaired by himself.

The review, entitled Mutual Action, Common Purpose: Empowering the Third Sector calls for a different relationship between government and governed, and a greater commitment to enforcing the Compact amongst other actions vital to the future of civil society. Thursday 27 November 2008

Summit 24 November 2008 - Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector and Stuart Etherington, NCVO Chief Executive meet with other sector leaders to discuss the economic crisisNCVO hosts summit on economic crisis

On Tuesday NCVO hosted a summit bringing together 25 sector leaders and government representatives to discuss the economic crisis and its impact on civil society. Both groups agreed to produce action plans, and a further meeting will take place early in the new year.

"We are very much looking forward to working with the government and feeding into their action plan with the rest of the sector" said NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington. Monday 24 November 2008

Debt advice service launched

With over 50,000 civil society workers struggling to repay their debts, NCVO and the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) have launched a new partnership providing a debt solution service for NCVO members to offer to their employees, volunteers and beneficiaries. A four-step initiative urges people not to ignore debt problems but rather to get independent help and advice from CCCS.  Thursday 6 November 2008

Meeting of creditors called

Ernst & Young, administrators of Icelandic bank Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander, have called a meeting of the bank's creditors at 11.00am on 1 December 2008 at the Café Royal.  They are seeking approval for a number of proposals, the meeting will also decide who should form the creditors committee.  Tuesday 18 November 2008

Cats Protection to set up a group as a class of creditors

Cats Protection is urging voluntary organisations with deposits in Icelandic Bank Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander to join them in presenting a unified voice as a class of creditors to the bank's administrators. The group will also inform charity umbrella organisations, including NCVO, who are representing charities' interests in conversations with government. Tuesday 18 November 2008
