In NCVO's 90th year, our flagship Annual Conference will examine how uncertain economic times and a potential change in government presents us with many challenges, but also with opportunities.

High profile keynote speakers

Dr Vincent Cable MP - New keynote speaker – “the holy grail of economic comment”

Vincent Cable, Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor for the Liberal Democrats - Photo credit www.vincentcable.org.uk We’re delighted to announce Dr Vincent Cable MP, Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor for the Liberal Democrats, as the morning keynote speaker at our flagship NCVO Annual Conference, 2009.

Since standing in as Acting leader following the departure of Sir Menzies Campbell, the cult of Cable has grown exponentially. Known for his acidic turn of phrase, he famously compared the Prime Minister to Mr Bean for "creating chaos out of order, rather than order out of chaos."

Recognised for his insightful analysis of the state of the economy, Dr Cable is the politician most turned to for his analysis of the changing economic climate. Described by Tory Alan Duncan as "the holy grail of economic comment" he will tell us what he believes the recession means for the voluntary and community sector and help us to focus on the challenging times we face ahead in 2009 and beyond.

Dr Cable has recently been awarded both Opposition Politician of the Year and Parliamentarian of the Year.
