At The Friendly Almshouses we work in the traditional values of almshouses and the women who founded our charity in 1802, whilst at the same time we respond to the current needs of our local community in Brixton. We provide sheltered accommodation for 30 women over the age of 50 who are of limited means and in housing need when they come to us. Our residents live in studio bedrooms with a separate kitchen and bathroom, situated in delightful gardens, hidden away in Brixton.

PLP (an independent, national, legal charity) aims to improve access to public law remedies for those facing poverty, discrimination or other disadvantage. We undertake research, policy initiatives, casework and training across public law areas. Our work is carried out by a small but committed group of staff and volunteers supported by an expert management committee. We have worked hard to merit a reputation for high quality, creative and ground-breaking legal work.

Bright One and trustees

Bright One is a volunteer-run communications agency for the Third Sector, including charities and social enterprises. Bright One helps organisations get their messages heard and provides opportunities for professionals to train and develop skills by working for the sector.

Planning Aid for London has a forty year history of helping communities understand planning and regeneration schemes.  The Localism Bill has brought planning and neighbourhood development to the forefront of community development and as such we are looking to expand our network and services to assist people getting involved with their local communities.

Basti Ram is a registered charity (Charity Number: 1137644) that works to promote educational opportunities to underprivileged communities in India and in the UK.  As well as fundraising and delivering worthwhile projects in India we run cultural experience tours that enable people to travel India to spend time working with primary school children, street children and orphans.
