NCVO's 2011 campaigning conference will focus on developing practical skills and identifying new opportunities to help you navigate the current environment.  So whether you want to brush up on old skills, learn practical new ones, find out about new opportunities to bring about change or network with your peers this conference is for you.

It will also cover how to communicate your success to different audiences and build a learning culture within your organisation.

New opportunities for influencing legislation

This session will look at some of the recent developments that provide opportunities to influence the political agenda. The session will cover the new backbench business committee, petitions, the Freedom of Information Act and other transparency initiatives that put power in the hands of savvy campaigners.

This session will provide an indepth look into the power of film to inspire change.  You will cover:

The benefits of using films within your campaign work; Explore innovative networking events such as the Good Pitch (www.goodfilm.org) where you can learn about films in production that meet your campaign objectives and Good Screenings (www.goodscreenings.org) to learn about holding successful screening events; How to utilize visual media in a cost effective manner and what to do if you are thinking about using film in your campaign work

This session will share insight on how trusts and foundations in the US are developing an overarching approach to strategy and evaluation of campaigns. It will explore how models such as the theory of change can be utilised by campaigners here to develop a more systematic approach to campaign planning to better demonstrate impact to your stakeholders- your supporters, beneficiaries and funders.

Using Freedom of Information in campaigning
The Freedom of Information (FoI) Act is a powerful and versatile campaigning tool enabling access to information held by public bodies at a local, regional or national level.  This practical session will explain what FoI is and how it can be used to strengthen your work: from developing the evidence base to understanding how decisions have been made to gaining media coverage for your issue.  It will also tackle some of the potential difficulties that can arise and ways around them.

While governments inevitably come and go the civil service provides continuity and could hold the key to getting your issue recognised in legislation or policy. This practical session will cover: identifying who to contact, how to build effective working relationships and understanding the policy making process to maximise your impact.
