This seminar, the latest in the NCVO Third Sector Foresight series, will help you make the most of what’s round the corner by guiding you through the main trends or forces expected to impact on future campaigns. A chance to exchange ideas and hear from a panel of communications and campaigning experts, this seminar will help you to “future proof” your own campaigning strategy.

“Great opportunity to tap into the mass of thinking that others have already done”

Joanna Westley (Head of Fundraising & Development, ACE)

What will you get from the day?

Using Foresight’s expert analysis and research to frame debate, and  this event will help you develop a more resilient campaigning strategy by addressing future areas of concern, including:

  • The rise of social media and citizen journalism
  • Fast changing expectations of participation
  • “Controlling the message” in a viral communications era

We will also take you through some strategic planning exercises, designed to help you work out how you can make the most of the drivers discussed and avoid any potential pitfalls.

This event will also be a great opportunity to network with other campaigners, and share your own experiences and ideas about where you want to take your campaigns in the future. Members of NCVO's Campaiging Effectiveness team will also be present on the day, so this will be an ideal opportunity to learn more about NCVO's full range of campaigning support.

Who should attend?

Aimed at campaigners, leaders of campaigning organisations, and those who make strategic decisions about campaigns, this seminar is an opportunity for you to take time out to explore what future threats and opportunities are likely to affect your work over the next five years.

The speakers

We will be hosting guest experts on social media and mass participation tactics so you can learn from those already working at the cutting edge of campaigning, and get a flavour of what all campaigns might look like in 5 years’ time.

Already confirmed

Amy Sample Ward, Global Community Development Manager for NetSquared, who will be discussing the significance of social media use to future campaigns and community engagement by videolink. You can read more about her on her website, but here is a brief introduction below:

Amy Sample WardI am dedicated to supporting and educating organizations and changemakers in the use of evolving technologies that cultivate and engage communities. I am inspired by opportunities to catalyze community building and social action, online and offline, whether it’s through blogging, facilitating, training, or speaking.

Dan Glass, Plane Stupid activist and 2008 winner of the Shiela Mckechnie Award for transport campaigning, who will be covering issues around campaigning and mass participation. Read more about Dan here, and below:

Dan_Glass.JPGHi, I organise with Plane Stupid to build a network of communities to take direct action against the environmental and social impacts of the aviation industry. I revel in creating cheeky ways to be a thorn in the side for those destroying the planet and duly stick myself to Prime Minsters, occupy airports, dances with old ladies blighted by flightpaths and help facilitate online environmental justice blogs.

I organise with 'So We Stand', bringing together anti-racism, anti-poverty and anti-climate change struggles together to take united action. We utilise the key organising tools for empowerment, such as popular education and direct action to build a movement for environmental and social justice. Facilitation training, empowerment training programmes, forum theatre, utilising technology to expose police infiltration and addressing white supremacy are some of the areas where my mischief making and organising for environmental justice has taken me.

Read reports from previous seminars which explored topics such as: the future fo membership organisations and schemes, the future of citizenship, new technologies; local government reform; new approaches to funding and a changing economic landscape.

‘the seminar provided very engaging speaker presentations and useful networking opportunities with key individuals’

Karen Mellanby (Head of Programmes, BASSAC)
