Building a Stronger Civil Society
New Government Strategy for ‘Building a Stronger Civil Society’
The Office for Civil Society has launched its new strategy for voluntary and community groups, charities and social enterprises. The aim is to develop practical measures to support and strengthen the sector, so it can realise the opportunities being made available as part of the Government’s Big Society agenda and wider programme of reforms.
The document has two sections:
1. Section one sets out the opportunities for the sector within the Big Society, in particular in the following areas:
- empowering communities
- opening up public services
- promoting citizen and community action
2. Section two outlines some of the practical measures Government wants to implement to support the sector, including:
- reducing red tape for small organisations
- mobilising civil society
- improving access to finance
- modernising commissioning and procurement
- supporting organisations to modernise and re-structure
