In partnership
with
This is an exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate the strength of voluntary and community organisations and their contribution to a thriving civil society.
And what better city than Manchester, with its great breadth and depth of civil society organisations and the traditions of cooperatives, social economy and community activism.
Why you should come to the conference
The conference will give you the opportunity to:
- Hear from a wide range of sector experts
- Network with delegates from across the country
- Attend lively, interactive workshops
Key themes
- Independent voluntary and community organisations are a key element of civil society. And yet absolute independence is a myth.
- In reality, no voluntary and community organisation operates in isolation. At this conference we will explore how we can and should take ownership of our own independence; and how being independent also means being accountable.
Keynote speakers
James Purnell MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
Atiha Chaudry, Director of Equal Access Consultancy and Chair of Manchester BME Network
Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of NCVO
Read Stuart Etherington's keynote speech
John Reizenstein, Managing Director, Corporate and Markets Division of Co-operative Financial Services will deliver the sponsor's address
There will be a short address at the drinks reception from Sir Bert Massie CBE, Commissioner for the Compact

Public service delivery - the challenges and opportunities - where should it sit in your funding mix? Delivering services under contract to the public sector is now the single largest source of income to the voluntary and community sector. This presents an opportunity for organisations considering where public service delivery could sit within their overall funding mix. It also raises a number of challenges and questions. We will hear from two organisations - one large, one small - who have been considering just this. Speakers include: Paul Ainsworth, Director, Ariel Trust - download Paul's presentation (PDF 36 KB) |
