Redundancy rights
Employees who have been given notice of redundancy are entitled to certain rights:
- Redundancy payments (in some cases)
- Employees who have worked for more than one month are entitled to a minimum period of notice. During this time, they must be paid, or paid money in lieu of notice if they are not required to work it.
Other rights on redundancy
Employees who have been given notice of redundancy have certain other rights:
- To reasonable and paid time off to look for another job or arrange employment-related training
- To a written statement of the amount of the redundancy payment and how it was calculated
- To appeal against the redundancy decision
- To a trial period of work for at least four weeks if alternative employment is found. This will not affect the right to redundancy pay if the trial does not work out, as long as the employee gives notice to terminate the trial within the four weeks and the employer is in agreement.
