Description:

The Tree Council works towards making trees matter to people; more trees, of the right kind, in the right places; better care for all trees of all ages and inspiring effective action for trees.  An umbrella body for over 150 organisations working together for trees - planting, caring for and enjoying them - and a forum for tackling issues relating to trees and woods, it  promotes the improvement of the environment by the planting and conservation of trees and woods in town and country throughout the UK.  Members range from professional, non-governmental, specialist and trade organisations, including other conservation charities, to government departments and local authorities.

Information provision/exchange, developing and facilitating networking opportunities, government lobbying, promoting and supporting partnerships

Membership criteria:

1) Full members (Voting)

  • Independent not for profit organisations with national (British, Scottish, Welsh, English or UK) remit, committed to the planting, care, conservation and value of trees

2) Consultative members (Non-voting)

  • Government agencies
  • Independent not-for-profit organisations with a local remit (including groups affiliated to parent environmental organisations,) committed to the planting, care, conservation and value of trees
  • All Local Authorities and other bodies responsible for co-ordinating Tree Warden Networks
  • Local Authorities with an interest in Tree Council activities

3) Associate members (Non-voting) - any corporate bodies that support the aims of The Tree Council and are able to sign up to an ethical statement
