Description:

A voluntary organisation working to encourage the better provision of accessible information to people marginalised by society and disadvantaged by lack of the information they need, particularly because of disability, language or cultural barriers.

Vision and mission statement:

The Forum believes that access to information is a basic civil right, and that lack of access to and of help in making sense of information is one of the main causes of social exclusion. Disabled and other disadvantaged people frequently suffer not because there are no services to help them, but because they do not know what help is available. The Forum's mission, therefore, is to identify gaps in the provision and take-up of information, and to encourage, by example and exhortation, everyone who can play a part in reaching those who need information, so that they may lead lives of quality and choice.

Type of organisation:

National generic umbrella organisation or infrastructure organisation, providing services to a membership comprising other voluntary organisations.

Services:

Information, Newsletters, Publishing.

Paid staff: 3
Volunteers: 1
Individual members: 300

Membership criteria:

Any who subscribe to National Information Forum's aims and has a need to share good practice.
