Description:

The Joint Epilepsy Council (JEC) provides a way for 24 diverse epilepsy organisations to work together effectively. By facilitating communication and sharing information, the JEC is able to support member organisations, maximise resources, exchange skills and expertise, help avoid duplication of effort, promote good practice and identify unmet needs.

Type of organisation:

National sub sectoral umbrella body or infrastructure organisation, providing services to member voluntary organisations within a thematic sub sector (e.g. youth, health etc.)

Advice and support, Campaigning, Conference organisation, Consultancy, Development of standards, Information, Lobbying, Media work, Member directories, Networking, Newsletters, Policy development, Publicity and promotion, Publishing.

(Although the JEC only has one full-time, paid member of staff, it's ruling Executive Committee is composed of senior personnel elected from it's 24 member organisations. Similarly, working groups and limited time project groups are made up of staff from member organisations.


Membership Criteria:

Application to membership of the JEC is open to any organisation in the UK and Ireland that works to meet the needs of people with epilepsy and their families or carers.
