Description
Bond is the UK membership body for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in international development. Established in 1993, Bond has over 330 members ranging from large organisations with a world-wide presence to smaller, more specialist organisations working in specific regions or with specific groups of people.
We promote, support and represent and, on occasion, lead the work and interests of the UK international development sector. We create opportunities for members to work, learn and share together through the exchange of ideas, experience and information to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of the sector.
Bond was previously known as British Overseas NGOs for Development (BOND).

Membership criteria
Bond members must be:
• based in the UK
• non-governmental
• non-profit distributing
• non-partisan (motivated by broadly humanitarian and developmental objectives, which should not be secondary to partisan political or religious aims)
There are three membership categories:
Full membership: Open to UK-based voluntary organisations working in international development, through supporting projects overseas, solidarity links, development education or emergency assistance and including those concerned with environmental issues in developing countries and development education. Though such organisations will probably be charities, membership may also include trusts, foundations, co-operatives, friendly societies, and companies limited by guarantee.
Associate membership: In order to be an associate member of Bond, an organisation should be UK-based and have as an aim the support of British development NGOs through funding, research, information provision, training or other services.
Provisional membership: In order to be a provisional member of Bond, the main purpose of the organisation must be working towards being active in international development (e.g. through preparing to support projects overseas, becoming involved in solidarity links, development education or emergency assistance) or preparing to support UK development NGOs through funding, research, information provision, training or other services.
