acevo's vision is to increase the effectiveness of the third sector. It is an organisation that rapidly developed to a central position of professionalism and authority within the third sector. acevo members represent a complete cross-section of third sector activity including animal welfare, the environment, children, elderly people, education, disability, medical, international, civil rights and social welfare.

Membership criteria:
Full membership is open to chief executives of voluntary organisations based within England and Wales or whose work includes England and Wales (i.e. UK or international organisations).
Associate membership is open to 'Next Generation Chief Executives'. These are most likely to be: a) the second (after the Chief Executive) most senior paid employee whose next appointment is likely to be as a chief executive of a voluntary organisation. b) a member of a senior management team of a voluntary organisation who is line managed by the chief executive and whose next appointment is likely to be as a chief executive of a voluntary organisation. c) supported by their chief executive.
Affiliate membership is open to chief executives and senior managers of statutory or quasi-statutory bodies, RDA's, NHS trusts, Government departments.
Corporate membership is open to for-profit organisations.
International membership is open to third sector leaders based outside the UK.
